Quality Sleep Gets Better with Age True or False

Most people do believe that quality sleep declines in old age. that is, the older you grow, the quality of good sleep reduces but the truth is otherwise. You might be wrong it you think that older people finds it difficult to sleep. The study in sleep journal found that people in their 80s are reported to have the best quality sleep.

A telephone survey with more than 150,000 American adults in their 80's reveals fewer complaint about their sleeping pattern while those of middle aged especially women had the most sleeping disorders. but the randomized survey was based on self reported data and did not measure people's actual sleep patterns which is capable of making one doubts about the authenticity of the results.

well sleeping disorder can occur in youths due to so many factors like alcohol, drugs, depression, low self esteem, dejection, heart break etc and might not be a natural phenomenon to be generalized.

A sleeping disorder should be considered as an individual problems affecting the person in question. According to the American Academy of Sleep Medicine more than 70 million people in the US have some kind of sleep disorder. Gardner said even if sleep among older people is actually worse than younger adults, feelings about it still improve with age.

There is also the need to consider other factors like illness and depression, older people should be reporting better sleep otherwise they need to see their doctor.

  1. There is a bit of a problem with these surveys. Not everyone is aware of the sleep disorders they may have. These disorders can range from the common sleep apnea to the more uncommon sexsomnia. How would you know what your body is doing during sleep? It's always best to consult with medical professionals about sleep disorders.
