A Nigerian professor was confirmed dead in the stampede that occurred on yesterday which claim the lives of over 717 persons on pilgrimage in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. According to the report, many Nigerians who went to the Hajj religious festival also were among the casualties that happened on Thursday. A Nigerian professor, Tijani El-Miskin, has been identified among the dead at the stampede that occurred in Mina, Saudi Arabia during this year's Hajj. The stampede occurred on Thursday, with no fewer than 717 persons confirmed dead. According to a report by The Nation newspaper, one of those who went on the pilgrimage with El-Meskin, Alhaji Umar Farouk, confirmed the death of the professor via a text message. Farouk, The Nation reported, expressed deep grief over the loss of lives, adding: "Whatever happens to man is the wish of Almighty Allah." El-Miskin was a professor of Arabic and Islamic Studies. It has been reported that at least 717 people lost their life while over 800 are injured in stampede that happen during Muslim Hajj pilgrimage in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. According to Islamic teachings, it is required that all faithful Muslim must perform Hajj once in their lifetime so every year the event is grace with millions of Muslims across the world who visit Mecca for the religious ceremony. Saudi officials said they prepared about 100,000 police and huge number of stewards to ensure safety and help those who lost their way. Assad's motive for revealing the new standard version of quran was to prevent the misinterpretation of the Holy Book. On Monday, President Bashar al-Assad received Minister of Religious Endowments Mohammad Abdul-Sattar al-Sayyed and members of the Ministry’s Permanent Committee for the Holy Quran Affairs. Minister Sayyed briefed President Assad on the new standard version of the Quran, following a presidential request for an update of the Holy Book. In the new version, Quranic letters are simplified according to a set of accredited standards for scholars of Quranic sciences.
