Laser Hair Treatment and IPL, What the Difference?

In hair removal treatment today, IPL and laser hair treatment are the two most popular options. They both uses the power of light to remove unwanted hair from the body. These methods of hair treatment works in divers ways hence they individually have their costs and side effects varies. If you are going in for a hair removal treatment, it is very important to have an idea of the similarities and differences of these treatments before you consult with your dermatologist.

How IPL Works:
IPL is an acronym for intense pulse light. In IPL treatments, a specialist uses a wand that centers a wide spectrum ray of light right on the hair. The light dries up all the moisture in the hair. As the hair dries, it burns up and dies. IPL treatment stun the hair root and causes the blood flow to the hair to stop and it weld the follicle shut.

With no blood flowing to the hair, the hair can no longer grow and it's permanently removed. It may take several treatments to completely remove the hair in the targeted area, but once done the hair will be gone for good.

However, because IPL uses a wide spectrum of light, there are more possibly side effects due to exposure to unnecessary wave lengths of light. People with lighter hair colors also do not find IPL treatments as effective because lighter hair doesn't absorb the light from the wand as easily as dark hair does.

How Laser Treatments Work:
Laser hair treatments and IPL do not work in the same way, Laser hair treatment works in a different way than IPL treatments. Lasers do not use a wide spectrum ray of light on the skin like IPL does, it use a single wavelength of light instead to remove hair from the body.

The melanin in the hair follicle absorbs the wavelength light in the areas applied not the rest of the skin, and the area that causes hair growth is burned, retarding future hair growth. This process also takes several sessions to achieve complete hair loss.

Laser treatments have a lower risk of potential side effects because they use a single wavelength of light, instead of many. Sometimes the hair treated with laser removal does grow back however. This is because the hair follicle is only burned, not shut off from blood flow as in IPL procedures.

The risks of this are fairly low, but it is still there. Laser treatments also work the best on dark, course hair on light skin, but new lasers have been able to make improvements on hair and skin types that are able to receive treatments.

You ought to understand that, IPL and laser hair treatments are two different methods that remove hair from the body which both have their pros and cons. So you will have to do a thorough research and talk to your dermatologist to find out which method is best for your and your skin.

Laser hair removal can work wonders for back hair removal, but if your price range is lower, a hair removal cream can offer a cheaper alternative to laser treatments and they also remove hairs from unwanted areas
