Warren Beatty and Annette Bening's son Stephen Ira, 22, was born Kathlyn. He began his transition at 14 and talked about being transgender in a 2012 video for WeHappyTrans.
When American transgender teen Leelah Alcorn committed suicide, Ira wrote on Twitter:
"also get really confused when parents 'mourn' when their kid comes out as trans. like, your kid didn't die, they're right there and they're the exact same person...if anything, they've gained a kid now that their child feels comfortable enough to come out."
In summer 2014, rapper R. Kelly's youngest daughter Jaya, 13, revealed on Facebook that she was transgender. She explained that she was now going by the name Jay Kelly, and had identified as a male since the age of six.
While Jay's famous father refused to talk about the issue, mom Drea told VH1 at the time: "Let's quit playing the game that you just choose to be gay or trans. We need to stop worrying about people's gender and sexuality and think about the choices we're making with our youth, period."
