How Chelsea Can Qualify For Round 16 of Champions League

The UEFA Champions League Group stages has just one match left, with Chelsea sitting at the top of Group G after beating Maccabi Tel-Aviv 4-0 yesterday. The Blues now tie 10 points with FC Porto, but topping the group on goal difference.

However, with Dynamo Kyiv earning a big win over Porto yesterday means, Chelsea must have to wait until the final match day to qualify for the final round 16 knockout stage.
This is because, there could be a possibility of a three-way tie for the top spot in Group G.

As Chelsea prepare to host FC Porto on December 9 for the final leg, here are the scenarios for Jose Mourinho's men to assure advancement.

==> A win over Porto will clinch Chelsea the top spot and a place in the last 16.

==> A draw against Porto will see Chelsea nevertheless advance.

==> Chelsea draw/Dynamo win: Chelsea win group, Dynamo finish second.

==> Chelsea draw/Dynamo draw or loss: Porto win group, Chelsea finish second.

==> A loss to Porto and a Dynamo Kyiv draw/loss to Maccabi Tel-Aviv will see Chelsea finish second in the group and advance to the last 16.

So currently as it stands, Chelsea have already secured at least a berth in the Europa League, regardless of the result in their final match.

Meanwhile, with just a point at Stamford Bridge, the Blues will advance to the next round.

  1. Norrkoping will meet Rosenborg in today's game played at Östgötaporten Stadium. In their last meeting, Rosenborg won the match with 3:1. I wonder if J. Gustafsson 's team prepared us with a surprise for today. Based on the past results of the two teams, I would expect for Rosenborg to perform well during this meeting and win this game. It should be interesting to see if Christian Gytkjær will score during this match as he has a good average in terms of goals scored / match.
