PHOTOS: BSU Students Protest Lack of Electricity in Female Hostel
Students of Benue State University, Makurdi, this morning, stage a peaceful protest over lack of electricity supply to the female hostels.
A handful of female students marched round the premises of the first campus of the university carrying leaves and changing their grievances.
BENUEFAMILY.COM gathered that for several weeks now there have been no power supply to the technical hostel block without much effort from the management to rectify the situation, which led to the protest.
Speaking via a phone conversation, one of the protesters simply identified as Ene, said they have face unimaginable hardship as a result of lack of electricity in the hostel.
” We don’t have light in the hostel for long and the authorities are not answering us. We need to read in the hostel but without light, it’s not possible”
She lamented that the hostel was notorious for s*xual harassment by intruders and urged the school management to come to their aid.
The Dean of Students Affairs, Dr Gowon Doki who addressed the students on behalf of the management, however urged the students to stay calm and that their complaints were being attended to and will be resolved as soon as possible.
