BSU FEES INCREMENT: Council solicits ideas from the public
Newly inaugurated Pro Chancellor and Chairman of Council of the Benue State University, Professor Zackarys Anger Gundu has asked the general public to feel free to volunteer ideas that will move the institution forward.
He made this statement on the background of recent public resentment over the introduction of new high conditional charges for incoming students by the university management.
Prof Gundu however argued that the capacity of state government to fund the university was reducing, hence the need to seek creatively, other alternatives of revenue generation.
“You may wish to know that we are coming at a time when State funding is shrinking. This calls for making difficult choices regarding priorities and strategies for sustaining the University idea for our State and people”.
“We must brainstorm and be clear on how the University can serve our State better. How the University can expand access and ensure affordable services to our people, …We need ideas. Many ideas.” He pleaded.
Following a protest by students of the University, the State Governor, Samuel Ortom mandated the Vice Chancellor, Professor Moses Kembe to ensure a downward review of the newly introduced conditional fees.
