Two corpses recovered by Police from LG Chairman’s farm in Benue
The Police in Benue State have recovered two corpses from the farm of the Caretaker Chairman of Otukpo Local Government, Hon. Ijachi Ude in Ondo community of Ugboju, Daily Trust reports.
According to locals, the bodies may have been those of people who were killed in the community as a result of clashes between supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and All Progressives Congress (APC) few days before the Benue South rerun election held in February.
Police spokesman, ASP Moses Yamu, who confirmed the incident said the Caretaker Chairman, Hon. Ijachi Ude, and his younger brother, Eje Ude, had been at loggerheads due to political differences and were investigating if the killings had connection to the family feud.
ASP Yamu added that the chairman in whose farm the corpses were found had earlier reported to the police that some persons were missing in the community.
“The dead bodies were recovered last Thursday with gunshots on their heads. One person was arrested in connection with the killing,” he said.
It was gathered that a part from the tussle between the caretaker chairman, who belongs to the APC and his brother who is of the PDP, the Ondo community had been enmeshed in unrest over land for several years.
